BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN CENTRAL AMERICA
Bailey from Destinationless Travel shares her expert opinion and experience of Central America; more specially, the best and most beautiful places to visit in Central America! Central America is small, yet beautiful part of the world. With tons of beaches, lush jungles, ancient ruins, and mountains to climb there a ton of places that sure to take your breath away.
I recently spent 3 months travelling around Central America and found some particularly gorgeous places that I am going to share with you in this blog.
The Ruta de las Flores, El Salvador is an area of a couple of small town connects by one road. Ruta de las Flores translated directly means “road of the flowers” and that is exactly what it is, a beautiful road that winds through the valleys between the towns with flowers everywhere in the spring.
Unfortunately, if you visit the Ruta de las Flores not in the spring or summer your chance of seeing flowers is slim, however that doesn’t mean the area isn’t still beautiful. The valleys and mountains make for great lookouts and the towns themself are actually quite cute and scenic.
2. SEMUC CHAMPEY, GUATEMALA
Semuc Champey is a National Park in a remote part of Guatemala. Within the park you will find several small waterfalls and natural swimming pools with the bluest water you will ever see. And the best part is that you can swim there!
Being such a remote place, it isn’t often very busy either, in fact, when I was there I had the place pretty much to myself! It wasn’t just the swimming that I loved though, it was the hike to the viewpoint up above the waterfalls. The hike only took about an hour and the view was beautiful!
3. OMETEPE, NICARAGUA
Ometepe Island is an island actually inland in Nicaragua. It is an island made up of two volcanoes that sit in the middle of a huge lake. The roads and towns on Ometepe Island all operate around the two volcanoes.
I recommend visiting Ometepe Island for a couple of days as is it just too big of an island to spend only one day. When deciding where to stay in Ometepe, be sure to choose somewhere close to the water or up on a hill where you can watch the gorgeous sunset that happens nearly every single night.
4. MONTEVERDE CLOUD FORREST, COSTA RICA
When you think of Costa Rica you probably think of beautiful beaches and palm trees, but up in the hills Cost Rica has something different to offer, cloud forest. Walking through the trees in the cool air is a magical experience!
Monteverde is only about 3 hours driving from San Jose, Costa Rica downtownand is well worth the journey. When I was there I was literally walking through cloud. In the Monteverde cloud forest there is also suspension bridges, waterfalls, and viewpoints to explore.
Playa Hermosa is a beautiful beach only about 20 minutes from the popular tourist town of San Juan del Sur. This beach is huge! The white sand and shallow waters make it perfect for swimming. The large size and smaller waves also make it a great place to learn how to surf!
Don’t just go for the day though, spend the night in some of the nearby accommodation or at least stay until sunset. The sunsets in Nicaragua are incredible and experiencing one on such a gorgeous and isolated beach makes it even that much better!
